Résumé

While editing this piece, our external hard drive full of footage crashed, it was pretty nasty. It must be some kind of curse related to this band’s aversion to high-end technology, multi-layered production and perhaps even external hard drives, who knows?

As stated on their website, Beak> likes to keep it simple: “The band have very strict guidelines governing the recording and writing process of their work. The music was recorded live in one room with no overdubs or repair, only using edits to create arrangements. All tracks were written over a twelve-day session.”

Vocals from the crypt on a motorik beat pretty much sums up this three-piece from Bristol. Of course, you could state German Krautrock as an obvious reference, but unlike so many other bands who don’t seem to have a clue, Beak> avoid this kind of cliché for a good reason: they know exactly what they’re doing. In these dark ages of “Lo-Findustrialized” Indie music, they managed to make it fresh and without any compromises.

Oh yeah, by the way, there’s a guy from Portishead in the band.
